The Bervie Chipper

Testimonials

I love the Bervie Chipper - both the original and the one in Stonehaven. I used to live in North London and would go to Toffs in Muswell Hill - a great fish and chip restaurant. My sister lives in North East Scotland and told me abut the Bervie Chipper in Inverbervie, and when we went there I was amazed to find it was even better than Toffs - amazed as I didn't think Toffs could really be improved on. I think the difference may be the potatoes used in the chips, maybe the fat, maybe a bit of both, or maybe it's because food tastes better when you're on holiday - who knows?

Now I live in America, and here you can get great fish and great chips (OK, fries) but you rarely get fish and chip restaurants in the same way as the UK (though there is a good one in Manhattan). When people ask me what I miss about Britain I have to say good old British fish'n'chips - and restaurants like the Bervie Chipper and Toffs are always in my mind when I say that. - not the ten-a-penny chippies with soggy chips and dried up fish that disappoint, but local chippies that really care about quality. For me the Bervie Chipper is the finest example of that - a local restaurant that is worth travelling across the Atlantic to visit. And you don't need anything special - a regular fish supper will hit the spot perfectly. The fish is fresh, the chips are spot on, and the flavour is always good - none of the old fat aroma that you get with chippies that are trying to cut corners.

Like they say, if something's worth doing it's worth doing it well, and the Bervie Chipper does fish and chips as well as anyone

Often voted the best chip shop in the UK, there is a reason why. Whenever i visit family I cannot leave without going here. A haggis supper or fish supper... actually I can't decide. It's all great. When you dream of a perfect chip, the guys manage it every time. There's a rumour that you always get a bad cheap in a plate of chip, then the bervie chipper flys in the face of that. I can't rave about this enough... it's gorgeous chipness with fresh fish caught from the local ports and you tell in the quality. Chip Perfection
